Info-concierge: Proactive Multi-modal Interaction through Mind Probing
نویسندگان
چکیده
To close the wide gap between the exploding information world and individual human knowledge, we have investigated a multi-modal interaction strategy called Mind Probing in which a system proactively acts on the user and then estimates his/her internal state by analyzing his/her reaction. We have also developed a system, Info-concierge, that can probe the latent interest of the user, make him/her aware of it, and proactively provide sensible information. The system uses the core techniques of Mind Probing through speech and gaze recognition. In this paper, we present the interaction flow, the core techniques, and a field trial of Info-concierge.

People are being inundated under enormous volumes of information and they often dither about making the right choices from these. Interactive user support by information service system such as concierge services will effectively assist such people. However, humanmachine interaction still lacks naturalness and thoughtfulness despite the widespread utilization of intelligent systems. The system n...

The major objective of this mixed methods research, which considered elements of both quantitative and qualitative research approaches, was to examine the effect of two different types of focus on form instruction, namely proactive and reactive across multimodal vs. traditional input settings on Iranian EFL learners' comprehension and production of modal auxiliaries. The participants of the stu...
متن کاملProactive Spectrum Sensing and Spectrum Sharing for Cognitive Radio
Cognitive radio (CR) is emerging as a field essential to the progress of wireless communications. With spectral efficiency at the forefront in protocol design, CR aims in combating the supposed spectrum crisis due to inefficiency in spectral utilization. Thus a lot more spectrum-hungry services can be supported by the limited frequency bands through opportunistic access or sharing of licensed s...
متن کاملMulti-Modal Stimulation, Response Time, and Presence
Multi-modal virtual environments succeed better, than single-channel technologies, in creating the 'sense of presence'. We hypothesize that the underlying cognitive mechanism is related to a faster mental processing of multimodal events. Comparing reaction time in uni-modal, bimodal and tri-modal events, we show that the processing speed is: uni-modal > bi-modal > tri-modal. Given this advantag...
متن کاملPhysiological and Psychological Foundations of Sensory Function
This chapter reviews background material underpinning sensory science and sensory evaluation methodologies. Basic and historical psychophysical methods are reviewed as well as the anatomy, physiology, and function of the chemical senses. The chapter concludes with a discussion of multi-modal sensory interactions. There is no conception in man’s mind which hath not at first, totally or in parts,...
